<image:caption>I am a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in treating a range of conditions including anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, impulse control, personality disorders and sequelae of trauma. Using scientifically validated principles of behavior, I collaborate with clients in a flexible and culturally-sensitive manner to identify and work toward their individual treatment goals. It takes immense courage to seek help when feeling vulnerable - this courage inspires me every day in the work that I do. I completed my undergraduate and masters-level training in Bangalore, India, where I was raised, before moving to the U.S. to do my PhD in Clinical Psychology at Northwestern University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Duke University Medical Center. I then gained post-doctoral training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before returning to Duke as clinical faculty. I practiced psychotherapy and trained clinicians at the Department of Psychiatry outpatient clinic at Duke until December 2020 before moving to Chicago to start my own practice. Click here for my CV. *I am currently licensed in Illinois and North Carolina and can see patients from North Carolina via telehealth.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Individual Psychotherapy - Individual Psychotherapy</image:title>
<image:caption>My practice is rooted in the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is a set of therapy techniques that emphasize the inter-relationship between thoughts, emotion and behavior. These techniques have been developed using scientific principles of behavior and validated by decades of research. They are the "gold-standard" intervention for several psychological conditions including anxiety disorders and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). More recently developed ("third-wave") CBT techniques strongly emphasize Buddhism inspired mindfulness and the acceptance of moment-to-moment life experience. I draw heavily from these mindfulness and acceptance based therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)* . My practice is also informed by other evidence based techniques such as acceptance and commitment therapy, somatic experiencing therapy, and self-compassion therapy. I use a principle driven approach to therapy, where in I use strategies of CBT to tailor treatment to each client given their specific goals. In addition to this, I implement formal protocols when treating specific conditions. These include: Behavioral Activation for depression Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Tinnitus Exposure and Response Prevention therapy for OCD Exposure-based therapies for anxiety disorders Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure for PTSD Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Adult ADHD * Please note that while I am not currently accepting individual DBT patients, I have extensive training in DBT and utilize DBT skills in many of my treatments.</image:caption>

<image:title>Individual DBT Skills Training - Individual DBT Skills Training</image:title>
<image:caption>In addition to individual psychotherapy, I offer individual DBT skills training. These sessions involve teaching specific sets of skills in four key areas: Mindfulness (how to focus on your current experience, deliberately, without judgment). Emotion Regulation (how to understand your emotions, change and reduce vulnerability to unwanted emotions). Distress Tolerance (how to tolerate intense emotions without reacting in a way that worsens the situation). Interpersonal Effectiveness (how to communicate effectively and get your interpersonal needs met). These "class-like" sessions are more structured compared to individual therapy, with a set agenda for each session, and homework to help strengthen the skills learned. They may be a good supplement to individual therapy for any one who can benefit -- indeed, DBT skills have been found to help individuals with a range of emotional conditions. Additionally, they may be an alternative to group DBT skills training for clients in full-model DBT who prefer an individual setting.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Multicultural Orientation - Multicultural Orientation</image:title>
<image:caption>We are all shaped by the cultural identities we hold - including our age, race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, body type and disability status, among others. These aspects of ourselves shape how we perceive the world around us and how we are perceived in turn. They influence our values and goals for our own mental health. At times, those perceptions can also be stressful, thereby having an impact on our mental health. Exquisite and nuanced attention to cultural factors is essential in psychotherapy, and a commitment that is very important to me. I co-led an inter-disciplinary multicultural peer-consultation team at Duke University Medical Center, involving ongoing supervision and consultation to strengthen multicultural competence in clinical practice. I am particularly passionate about facilitating mental health awareness and psychoeducation for immigrant populations in the U.S. As such, I conducted psychoeducation workshops for international students at UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University to help them overcome the stigma of mental health care. I have also collaborated with other researchers and scholars to produce scientific knowledge about how to strengthen education in this area within the field of psychology. As an immigrant myself, I am deeply aware of the impact of cultural context on my role as a clinician. I may not share the lived experiences of my clients or know everything about their cultural identity. However, I will ask questions and I will listen - I strive to approach clients with humility, by being open to their worldview.</image:caption>
